There will be 4 candidates on your ballot for City Council Ward 1. The entire city can vote on this race. The PRIMARY election will narrow the field to two candidates, and the Municipal GENERAL election will decide the winner. The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, October 5th and the General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd.

What does the Durham City Council do?

City Council is the legislative and policy-making body for Durham and is the final authority on City matters. The Council establishes general City policies; appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Clerk, and members of boards, committees and commissions; enacts ordinances, resolutions, and orders; approves the strategic plan and annual budget; and authorizes contracts on the City’s behalf.
